Good Introduction September 20, 2004 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This excellent book is perhaps more of a coffee-table book than a serious textbook - it has wonderful photographs. It does just scratch the surface on some aspects of Viking life, but as an in depth introduction to the subject, it's very, very good.
A good book on the vikings May 4, 1999 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
Despite it's title this book is far more than just an historical atlas of the Vikings. Only a fifth of the books is devoted to maps as the rest of the book uses text, and a very good world timeline, to tell about the world during the Viking era. The book tells about the arts history and the literature of the Vikings, however it is the chapters on the Viking expansion, both eastwards and westwards that the book with its colourful maps is able to explain and lllustrate best.
